In February 2006, a terrible accident happened - Roman Alexandrovich

was hit by a van. When the victim was taken to the hospital, doctors, sighing and shaking their heads, said that he received injuries incompatible with life. However, they did not give up and began to fight for the life of the young man. Petushkov was saved, however, since then his life changed dramatically. Because of the collision with the car in a large Roman’s legs suffered most. The doctors amputated one of them immediately, for the preservation of the other one they desperately fought for about three months, but in vain. Roman lost his second leg as well.
At first, Roman Petushkov didn’t understand clearly, what happened to him. He did not want to believe that all this really happened to him. Having realized the situation, Petushkov fell into a deep depression.

. And they turned on the TV when the Paralympic Games in Turin were on at the right time. So close people wanted to support Roman, showing him that disability - it is not a sentence.
Roman’s mother, wanted to help her own son, she learned that the city of Dmitrov (Moscow region) has a fitness club for the disabled. She told him about it. First Roman refused , believing that it will not work, but eventually did agree to try. And, as it turned out, not in vain.
At the training camp Roman Alexandrovich met with Irina Gromova, the head coach of the Paralympic team in skiing and biathlon. Considering the huge potential in Petushkov, Mrs. Gromov invited him to camp in Rybinsk (Yaroslavl region). Long training, hard work and care of Irina Gromova eventually made Roman Alexandrovich a great athlete.

In 2010 at the Paralympics in Vancouver (Canada), Roman Petushkov

got a silver medal in the competition in cross country skiing and a bronze one in biathlon competitions. In 2014, at the Paralympic Games in Sochi (Russia) Petushkov was able to collect as many as six gold medals - in biathlon and cross-country skiing. Roman Aleksandrovich also participated in other sports for people with disabilities. From almost every trip to the tournament, he came back with a medal.

In 2013, Roman Petushkov won the "Turn of Fate" award, established by the Russian Paralympic Committee.
