Central, South – Western, South – Eastern, Scottish, Welsh and Irish. One of these dialects-the language of the educated population of London and South – East England – eventually acquired the status of a national standard (RP). It is based on "correct English" - the language of the best private schools (Eton, Winchester, Harrow, Rugby) and universities (Oxford and Cambridge). This is the classic, literary English.
