The Olympic sports complex was
built in 450 BC in the sacred Altis grove. The Central place in the Olympic complex was occupied by the temple of Olympiysky Zeus, inside of which stood a huge, more than 13 meters high statue of Zeus.
On the territory of Olympia there was a racetrack for horse racing, the Olympic stadium for 50 thousand spectators a gymnasium with paths for running, as well as areas for throwing, wrestling and ball games.

were held in the year 884 BCE, there were only running competitions. They were born from a religious ritual when the God Zeus competed in the run with torches, and the winner lit a fire on the altar. In fact, the Game then involved only the inhabitants of Elis.

146 BC, Ancient Greece was conquered by Rome and became part of the Roman Empire.
The Olympic games continued, but now the Romans participated in them.
Now the Games lost any religious meaning and became a demonstration of the power of Rome.
They had Gladiator fights and fights with wild beasts.
