There is almost the same holiday in England. It is called Mothers Day and celebrated also in spring. Sons and daughters come and give gifts to their mothers on this day.
If it is not possible to see a mother, one can send presents and cards to her. Flowers and cakes are the traditional gifts for all mothers in England.

It is a good tradition in our country to give presents and flowers to women on this day. Each family celebrates this spring holiday. In the morning men go to the shops or markets to buy some flowers. They try to clean flats and help women to cook a holiday dinner.
Some families celebrate the 8th of March going to the theatres and concerts.
Others prefer to invite guests and stay at home.

States, National Women's Day was observed on 28 February 1909 following a declaration by the Socialist Party of America. The following year, the Socialist Party organized the first international women's conference in Copenhagen and proposed to establish an 'International Women's Day' to honour the women's rights movement. Less than a week later, on 25 March, the tragic Triangle Fire in New York City took the lives of more than 140 working girls, most of them Italian and Jewish immigrants. This event had a significant impact on labour legislation in the United States to improve the working conditions for women. 
Today, International Women’s Day is observed every 8 March in many prominent nations of the world. It is now an official holiday in Armenia, Russia, Belarus, Bulgaria, Kazakhstan, Macedonia, Moldova, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Ukraine, Vietnam, etc.
The industrial boom at the turn of the 20th Century showed booming population growth and the rise of radical ideologies. With economic emancipation, women began to be more self-sufficient and conscious of their rights. In 1908, 15,000 women marched through New York City demanding shorter hours, better pay and voting rights.  
In Europe more than one million women and men attended IWD rallies campaigning for women's rights to work and vote. German women chose the date of the celebration because, on 19 March 1848 the Prussian king had promised many reforms in the face of an armed uprising, including an unfulfilled voting right for women.
