communication and SMS – messages have become an integral part of people’s life nowadays. According to statistics, billions of SMS are sent by the population of the Earth every day. To make the speed of communication quicker, people invented a special SMS – language. A lot of people consider it a great convenience, as this language saves space, time and money of mobile users, while others think that it can spoil the classical English and affect other languages as well. That is why we think that the theme of our research is urgent nowadays.

into account the results of the survey, we can come to such a conclusion: students of senior forms of our school use different forms of abbreviations of SMS – language, but most of them (70%) think that it doesn’t affect their literacy greatly.

of different surveys in the English – speaking countries revealed that influence of SMS - language on literacy of schoolchildren is insignificant. Our school survey also confirmed this fact, so we can say with certainty that SMS – language does not deteriorate any language, thus it has the right for existence.
