native Scotland. This is partly because he quarreled with his parents, partly because he was a natural wanderer and partly because the Scottish climate was bad for his health.
Stevenson was born a story-teller, he was also an accomplished poet, essayist, playwright and writer of letters and travel books – a literary all-rounder.

Stevenson spent rather little time of his literary career in his native Scotland. This is partly because

the bar before he gave it up too. By that time, he was a victim of tuberculosis. The rest of his life is the store of a constant fight with the disease.
He traveled to Belgium and France for his health’s sake and in 1896 he met an American, Fanny Osborne, who was 11 years older than himself and separated from her husband.

wishes of his parents, followed her to America, where he awaited for granting of her divorce. His journey to California was a difficult one, and his first months of marriage, being poor and sick, were no less difficult.

On medical advice the Stevensons spent ten years in different Europeans health resorts.

Spent a winter at health clinic

at Saranac Lake , after which he regained his forces and felt well to travel again. He decided to travel to Samoa by sailing boat through the South Pacific. He wanted to prolong his life.
He left Europe for ever.
Finding the climate and the people of Samoa suited him well, he settled there and bought an estate. The last five years of his life were happy and productive.

straining to open a bottle of wine he suddenly felt to the ground and died within a few hours, probable of cerebral hemorrhage, at the age of 44.
