Not further than 30 kms from Kazan is the
Raifa Bogorodisky monastery, founded in 1661. The most significant church of the Raifa monastery is the Cathedral of the Virgin of Georgia. It was built in memory of the most pure and holy woman of Orthodoxy. Everyone by all means visits a floating chapel that is on the lake outside the monastery. The monastery walls are beautifully framed by the waters of Raifa Lake.

The Kazan Kremlin is a symbol of combination of Muslim

Near the Annunciation Cathedral in the courtyard of the
former cadet school Kul-Sherif Mosque is erected. It reminds us about the most beautiful mosque of the Kazan khanate, destroyed in XVIth century. The main dome has the shape of the Kazan hat-the crown of Kazan khans. Blue color of the dome symbolizes the sky.

The Suyumbeki Tower was called so in honour of the
last Kazan tsarina. Its silhouette is frequently used as an architectural emblem of the city. It is 58 meters high and is called the leaning tower as the displacement of the top of the roof from its initial position has nowadays reached almost 2 meters.

It’s one of the oldest buildings in the Kremlin. During
many centuries it has been the main square of Kazan. The Spasskaya Tower has the walls 16 meters thick. In front of the Tower you can see the monument to Musa Jalil.

A pedestrian street in the centre of Kazan, so
called a corner of Petersburg, was opened on the eve of the 1000th jubilee of the city as a present of St. Petersburg to the capital of Tatarstan. All city architectural objects situated here are built in the style of the northern capital. You can see here a part of Vasilyevsky Island and the Neva, embankment and bridges and many other interesting things.

Kaban is a system of lakes linked one to the
other: the Blizhny Kaban in the city centre is linked by a channel with the Sredny Kaban- the largest lake, flowing to the outskirts of Kazan, and at last the Verkhny Kaban. The overall length of the lakes is about 8 km, the average width is about 400 meters, the depth from 8 to 10 meters.

In the central part of the city along Lake Kaban
is the Park of Millennium of Kazan with a large fountain looking like a boiling pot in the center of the park. It recreates the ancient legend about the origin of the name of Kazan. They are decorated with birch, oak, chestnut, lime, mountain ash trees.

Kazan Metro strikes by its unusual and bright appearance.
Every station here is a combination of ornaments of Tatar and Russian folklore. Five stations are open in the Kazan Metro: Gorky, Ametyevo, Sukonnaya Sloboda, Tukai Square ,Kremlevskaya, Koziya Sloboda,Yashlek and North Station.

Sabantui always begins early in the morning when people
in national dress come to Maydan. The holiday usually begins with a horse rase. The stongest batyrs come to Kazan to take part in wrestling and win the main prize- a sheep. There are a lot different funny competitions: jumping sacks, carring eggs in spoons between the teeth, running with pails full of water.
