Why are there oversized socks and stockings hanging on your mantel ?
The original Saint Nicholas left his very first gifts of gold coins in the stockings of three poor girls who needed the money for their wedding dowries. The girls had hung their stockings on the mantel.
Why is the day following Xmas day called “Boxing day” ?
In English- speaking countries churches opened special boxes “alms box” in which people had placed gifts of money to poor people.
Why is the red colour often used in Xmas decorations ?
Red is the colour for blood that reminds us of the wounds of Christ and the stripes by which we are healed .Red is the colour of the God of love who suffered for humankind. It is the colour of His courage and His sacrifice.
