that may be substituted for a noun or noun phrase, which once replaced, is known as the pronoun’s antecedent. How is this possible? In a nutshell, it’s because pronouns can do everything that nouns can do. A pronoun can act as a subject, direct object, indirect object, object of the preposition, and more.

What is a Pronoun?

drinking a cup of coffee. She is drinking a cup of tea. It was very expensive. We are having breakfast. You were having dinner together. They are shaking hands.

annoying her. John made it this morning. “Come to see us in London!” I saw you last night in the pub. John is not with them.

to the railway station.
