At the time of troubles, in 1609,
the monastery operating here was destroyed by Polska-Lithuanian invaders, its cross was burned in the river Gorel-Krest flowing near the village, from which it got its name. Soon in 1699 a wooden Church was erected. In 1815 in place of wooden church the brick temple with the same name was built.
The temple of Sts. Martyrs Boris and Gleb has two side-altars: right-for the sake of St. Alexiy Mitropolit of Moscow and all the Russians; left- for the sake of the great Martyr Barbara. From the West side the temple is adjoined by the stone bell tower, which is built over a church porch.
Слайд 12The fate of the temple is tragic in Soviet times -
it was closed and gradually destroyed and plunderd. Tombs of the Stromilovs were also ruined. The list with the image of the Christ-savior has remained on an altar wall of the temple. But during the great Patriotic war, the residents asked authorities to open the temple. The petitions were rejected. Only 70 years later temple restoration began.
