work is:
to study English rhymes for children, written by Lewis Carroll and Edward Lear, their linguistic features and the peculiarities of their translation from English into Russian.

to study methods and principles of poetic translation;
to conduct a survey among our classmates in order to get any idea if they can understand and translate nonsense rhymes from “The Book of Nonsense” by Edward Lear and “Jabberwocky” and “The Hunting of the Snark: An Agony in Eight Fits” by Lewis Carroll;
to compare “Nonsense Alphabet” translations made by E. Klyuev, G. Kruzhkov and V. Savin with our own one and determine how accurately they correspond to the original;
to use new experience for creating a book and video for children.

Nonsense verse makes use of nonsense words:
Neologism is a new word or a new use for an old word.

Portmanteau is a word blending the sounds and combining the meanings of two others.
Fuming + furious = frumious

nonsensical situations:
Far and few, far and few,
Are the lands where the Jumblies live;
Their heads are green, and their hands are blue
And they went to sea in a sieve.
Some nonsense verse simply presents contradictory or impossible scenarios in a matter-of-fact tone.
There was an old man with a nose,
Who said: “If you choose to suppose
That my nose is too long. You are certainly wrong!”
That remarkable man with a nose.

rhymed translation, i.e. transferring the rhyme of the original poem into the target text;

Rhymes under analysis have a large number of nonsense words - and each nonsense word is of a clear part of speech.
There are much more monosyllabic words in English than in Russian, they affect the rhythm and must be taken into account in the translation.
The poetic text has specific stylistic devices and features and they can cause difficulty in translation.
