is one of the famous American writers of XX century.
He was born in 1876 in San Francisco, California. In his childhood Jack was really a voracious reader. At the age of 8 he read a book about a rich and famous Italian writer who used to be a poor peasant in his youth. He was fascinated by the unusual fate of this writer.

In that time,
he had to work 14 hours a day for a miserable salary under inhuman conditions at the factory. This 14-year-old boy faced the social injustice of the capitalistic America. He saw strong men that firstly became unemployed then homeless. He hated that kind of job. Jack London decided that he would never spend his life like that.

Jack London saw the
lovely nature of Arctic and its severe but fair laws of survival. He showed it in his dog stories - "The Call of the Wild"(1903) and "White Fang” (1906) .
They are some of the best works in the animalistic literature. The writer teaches us to be kind with animals. Animals are not only good helpers to people, but also their friends.

The very
first story «The Love of Life» caught my fancy. I was struck by the will of a sick man who found himself alone, side by side with a wolf. Both the man and the wolf were sick and weak. And each of them was waiting for the other to grow still weaker and faint in order to feed on him. The man won. While reading the story I admired the courage and human spirit of the hero.
