Слайд 8How Do We Know About Dinosaurs?
The word dinosaur comes from the

Greek word deinos that means “terrible” and the word sauros that means “lizard”.
The term was coined by the British paleontologist Richard Owen in 1842. When he called them “terrible lizards”, he didn’t mean that they were scary monsters. He referred to their very large size.
Dinosaurs were not lizards or reptiles but many did lay eggs. Some had skin like crocodiles while others skin was much smoother.

The fossils are then taken to a museum where they are cleaned, measured, and studied.
Most fossils are found in pieces.
Scientists try to put the fossil pieces together like puzzle pieces.

Some were tall, like a 3-storeyed building;
Some were plant-eaters, herbivorous and had flat teeth;
Some were meat-eaters, carnivorous and had sharp teeth.
