“The hedgehog has a lot of spines. They protect him against enemies. When a dog attacks a hedgehog it rolls into a ball and waits till the dog goes away.* It sleeps in the daytime and walks about at night. Its food is apples, snakes and mice. When it finds apples or mushrooms, it rolls itself upon them, raises them on the spines and carries them home. If one of the apples falls off, it shakes off all the apples and rolls upon them again. *When winter comes the hedgehog makes a small house for itself. In this house it sleeps all the winter.”

The sun shines down and warms the seed. Soon the little leaves sprout out from the ground.

Once upon a time there was a Farmer Pig. He lived in a beautiful house. All around it were fields of fruit and vegetables that he had planted himself.

Farmer Pig gives one ear to Mr. Crow. He gives one ear to his wife. She loves corn.

And what is Farmer Pig going to do? He is going to do some planting. Farmer Pig plants a seed of corn in the ground.

And with his knife, Farmer Pig makes the third ear into a pipe! Isn’t it wonderful to think of what you can do with one little seed!

The rain comes down and wets the seed. The seed starts to grow.

It grows and grows. Finally, it has three ears of corn ready to be picked.

Mum and Dad are here too. It’s very cold and it’s snowing. We have to wear boots, jackets, gloves and hats. But we don’t have to get up early because it’s too cold. We all like the mountains and the snow. See you soon!
