reaching other planets. But only in the XX century the dream of travelling into space became true. And the Russian people were the first in the world to fly into outer space. It happened due to great work of the Russian scientists, constructors and cosmonauts.

At the beginning of the XX century the great Russian scientist, Konstantin Tsiolkovsky predicted that "mankind will not remain on Earth forever".

Earth's orbit. It was launched on October 4, 1957. This satellite was only 53 cm in diameter, and carried a simple radio transmitter. The transmitter allowed scientists to track Sputnik as it orbited the Earth.

November 3, 1957 and the first to carry a living animal, a dog named Laika. It helped the scientists to understand whether people could survive in space and provided them with the data on the behavior of a living organism in the space environment.

1960. They returned to the Earth the next day, becoming the first living creatures to be launched into space and returned safely to the ground.

It proved that living beings could survive in space. And this successful flight gave the Russian scientists confidence to send a human into space less than a year later.

1961 when Yuri Gagarin flew into space and spent 108 minutes there. It was one of the greatest events of the XX century. Yuri Gagarin was the first human ever to travel in space. The Soviet cosmonaut circled the Earth in spaceship «Vostok-1». The news about space flight of the Soviet cosmonaut immediately flew over the world.

into space. On August 11, 1962 spaceship «Vostok-3» piloted by Andriyan Nikolayev flew into space. The next day Vostok 4 with Popovich was launched into space. It was for the first time that 2 spaceships were in space at the same time. They flew in a distance of 6 km from each other. This flight was a preparation for spaceships’ docking.

a woman flew into space. She was Valentina Tereshkova, the first woman cosmonaut in the world. She orbited the Earth 81 times.

memorable because the copilot Aleksey Leonov left the ship for the first time to make a space walk. He spent 10 minutes outside the spaceship in a special spacesuit.

The first international flight took place in 1975.On July 15 an American spacecraft “ Apollo” started from Canaveral and “Soyuz-19” from Baikonur.
