Charles Lutwidge Dodgson.
Dodgson was born in 1832. He was the 3rd child and eldest son and had 3 brothers and 7 sisters. He was very close and protective of them. Even as a child his talent was evident as he entertained his brothers and sisters with stories and games. Carroll was a mathematician and he had some books on Maths but this man was much more than only a mathematician; he was a photographer and he was fond of theatre and opera.
Dodgson liked playing croquet, backgammon, billiards and chess. He was very interested in new inventions and invented many things himself, for example a tool for writing in the dark.

Hare, the Mad Hatter, the Cheshire Cat, and the White Knight, have become part of everyday speech.
