Philip Mountbatten is not the King, he is only
the Queen*s husband, because the head of the
State is the Queen Elizabeth II. They have four

Charles Anne Andrew Edward
Charles, the Prince of Wales is the Queen*s
eldest son. He was born in 1948. He is an
official successor of the throne. He will be the
King after his mother*s death.
Princess Anne is the Queen*s second
child, was born on 15 August 1950.
Prince Andrew, the Duke of York – the
third child, was born on 19 February 1960
Prince Edward, the Earl of Wessex – the Queen*s
yongest son, was born on March 1964.
The Queen*s speech always takes place on Wednesday in
November in the House of Lords at 11 a.m. It is the
centerpiece of the State Opening of Parliament. This is the
event where the Queen puts on her glittering ceremonial dress
and crown and speaks from a throne, watched by her husband
and other members of her family and Lords. The ceremony
begins with a procession of carriages from Buckingham Palace,
bearing the Queen and her family. On arrival at the House of
Lords, she makes her way to the chamber, where the throne
Is situated, to make her speech. It is long – standing tradition
that the Monarch never enters the House of Commons.
POLITICAL AND INDUSTRIAL CENTRES

London is the capital of Great Britain. It is a very big
and important political, industrial, scientific and cultural
centre of the county. There are many plants and factories,
institutes, libraries, museums, art galleries, theatres,
cinemas, supermarkets, schools etc.
The biggest cities of England
Sheffield is a centre of a steel industry and in
Manchester there are many textile factories.
Liverpool is one of the big ports on the west coast of
the Island.
Oxford and Cambridge are university towns, in
Glasgow and Edinburgh is highly developed
maching building and metallurgical industry.
Buckingham Palace is the London home of Queen Elizabeth II. It was
built in 1703. The ceremony of changing the Guard.
