Anna Akhmatova died.
А́нна Андре́евна Ахма́това - Russian poet, translator and
literature critic, one of the most significant figures of Russian literature of XX century. He was Nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature (1965). Her fate was tragic. Three her close friends were subjected to repression: first husband, Nikolai Gumilev, was shot in 1921; third husband, Nikolai Punin was arrested three times and died in the camp in 1953; only son, Lev Gumilyov, spent in detention in 1930-1940's and in 1940-1950-ies more than 10 years. Akhmatova's name was surrounded glory during her life among the admirers of poetry both in the USSR and in exile.
