To my mind, the activity of M. S. Gorbachev was of great importance for our country. He introduced the reform programme into Soviet social and economic life at home and tried to halt the arm race abroad.

In Brezhnev times our life was better. We would always have a job. We never feared unemployment. We could easily afford to go on vacation. During his period of power there was no homelessness. It wasn’t hard to make a living.

I would vote for Yuri Andropov. I think he served his country best. Judging from history, and according to my parents' words there was more order in the country; the economy was working in principle, labour discipline was strengthened at that time.

I think that when Stalin was in power he showed his worth and proved to be a strong leader. If Stalin hadn't been a ruler of the country during the Great Patriotic War we wouldn't have won it.

Undoubtedly Catherine II. She created Russia that everyone feared. During her rule she brought the Crimea to Russia. To lose it was absurd. She was also a very educated person, she wrote poetry, and she kept communication with representatives of the Enlightenment.

I deeply respect the personality of Pyotr Alexeyevich. When he was in power he managed to do incredible things, he could change the life of all the generation beyond recognition. He was a strong ruler who thought about the flourishing of the nation and not about his personal gain.

Really qualitative irreversible changes took place during his leadership. With him our country acquired too much: an image of new state with democracy, freedom and a policy of glasnost. He did a lot to join the civilized world, Europe.

L. Brezhnev was the effective ruler of the USSR from 1964 to 1982.
Free education & medical care were for all. His international policies enabled the consolidation of political & strategic power in relations with the US.
The SALT treaty made the beginning of the “détente” era.

1906-1982

Yuri Andropov became president in 1983.
During his leadership he introduced economic reforms and strengthened labour discipline.
He was against USSR’s invasion in Afganistan and cared about the image of our country on international arena.

1917-1984

Stalin became General Secretary of the Communist Party in 1922.
Under his rule Russia did grow into a great industrial country, so strong that she was able to stand up to the Germans in the Second World War. He was really the leader of the nation during World War II.

1878-1953

Tsar of Russia from 1682. During the Emperor`s reign the country was reorganized on Western lines:
the army was modernized
a fleet was built
the administrative and legal systems were remodeled
education was encouraged
the church was brought under state control
foreign policy was quite energetic
St. Petersburg was made the capital of the Empire.

1672-1725

Peter the Great – one of the most prominent figure in the world history.
In all his undertakings we feel love for Russia and a strong desire to bring the country out of poverty and ignorance.
