“The History of Great Britain”
Слайд 7St Paul’s Cathedral is one of the most famous buildings in
the world. The clock tower on the West Side has the bell known as Great Paul. At three meters in diameter, it is the heaviest swinging bell in the country. You will find interesting is the Whispering Gallery, where you can whisper at one wall, and then hear your voice on the opposite wall.

One of the most ancient buildings of London is the Tower.
It is situated on the north bank of the Thames. It was founded in the 11th century by William the Conqueror. It comprises 20 towers. The oldest of which is the White Tower. The Tower is famous as home of the Crown Jewels.

Houses of Parliament. It is a great work of many people of different centuries. The oldest part of the building dates from the 8th century. Abbey is wonderful with its Chapel of Henry VII. The Chapel is made of stone and glass. Here in the Abbey there are tombs and memorials of almost all English monarchs, many statesman, famous scientists, writers and musicians. And also there is the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior.

Cardiff is situated near the mouth of the Taff River. It is an important industrial city and a port. It is also an administrative and educational centre. The Welsh people are fond of folk music, poetry and drama. Welsh literature is one of the oldest in Europe.

north-west coast of the continent of Europe. The largest islands are Great Britain and Ireland.
England, Wales and Scotland are in Great Britain; Northern Ireland is situated in the north-eastern part of Ireland. The larger part of Ireland is the Irish Republic.
There are no high mountains on the British islands.

high. In Ireland much of the land is low, but there are green hills and low mountains.
