river Shannon. It is a port and a chief town of Limerick County. The population of Limerick is nearly 55 thousand people. Limerick is popular for the Irish lace, but also the town is famous for short poems called limericks in honour of the English poet Edward Lear

artist and poet, one of the founders of the "poetry of nonsense", author of numerous popular absurd limericks. Edward Lear was born on May 12, 1812.
     He was the twentieth child in the family.
  When he was four years old, his father lost his job.
From the age of nineteen he traveled the world. Mostly he traveled alone.
In 1846, Lear released The Book of Nonsense, which included funny limericks. Soon this genre became very popular.
