river Thames as the witness and influential part of England`s history.

at the ancient walls of the Tower of London, flows past the Palace of Westminster and is spanned by Tower Bridge. Many people are aware that the river runs through Oxford and Windsor. However, there are a great many more interesting facts to learn about England‘s longest river.

Welcome to the capital of England

Valley, a region of England centred around the river between Oxford and West London.
The River Thames has also been the witness and influential part of England's history.

Willows», as it appears in the book by Peter Ackroyd, «The Thames - the sacred river». «Three Men in a Boat» by Jerom K Jerom , first published in 1889, is a humorous account of a boating holiday on the Thames between Kingston and Oxford . The book was intended initially to be a serious travel guide, with accounts of local history of places along the route, but the humorous elements eventually took over.

admire bridges built in many different architectural styles. Twenty-four bridges span the Thames in London, from Kew Bridge to Tower Bridge. Some our railway bridges and there is a footbridge, however most are road bridges.

The first London Bridge is thought to have been built by the Romans in the first century, with several rebuilds over the centuries. Eventually wooden bridges were replaced with a stone bridge, the first one being started in 1176 and finished years later.

The present London bridge opened in 1973.

London, linking Westminster on the north side and Lambeth on the south side. The bridge is painted predominantly green, the same colour as the leather seats in the House of Commons which is on the side of the Palace of Westminster nearest to the bridge. This is in contrast to Lambeth Bridge which is red, the same colour as the seats in the House of Lords and is on the opposite side of the House of Parliament

the bridge had to be shut because of dangerous swaying. It has now been reopened.
