Слайд 6I got fascinated by the personality of Sherlock Holmes quite recently.
It was promoted by access to TV screens a series of short stories about Sherlock Holmes shown on TV in a new interpretation. I got interested in unusual stories, excellent performances by the cast and high quality surveys. Who would have thought that the story of the world-famous detective so many times shown in the cinema and TV screens, once again will be of interest to in modern humans in many countries around the world, and will break the stereotypes.

Слайд 9Truth or fiction?
The prototype of the legendary British detective was the
writer’s teacher. In his youth when Doyle was a medical student at Edinburgh University he worked as an assistant of Joseph Bell, who in his free time was fond of investigating crimes and successfully applied the same deductive method, which was subsequently glorified Sherlock Holmes to the world.
Слайд 10«To know mankind, we must study the man» Dr. Watson
Arthur Conan
Doyle in his works never informed of the date of Sherlock Holmes’ birth. Presumably his birth year is 1854 (the story "His Last Bow"). In the print version it also appeared that Holmes was born in 1850. This version was supposedly based on the biography of the doctor Joseph Bell, which the writer has repeatedly mentioned as the prototype of Sherlock Holmes. About family and ancestors of Sherlock Holmes, little is known. In "The Case of an interpreter," Holmes tells the story: "My ancestors were landowners and lived provincially, probably accurately with such a life that is natural for them to class."
Слайд 11Holmes’ personality
At the first meeting with Sherlock Holmes ("A Study in
Scarlet"), Dr. Watson, described the
great detective as a tall, thin young man, «the growth of M, he was over six feet. He had a sharp look, piercing, except for those periods of torpor, mentioned above, a thin aquiline nose gave his face an expression of living energy and determination. Square, slightly protruding chin, too, spoke of the strong character». Sherlock Holmes is a biochemist by his education. He worked as a laboratory assistant in a London hospital. But this refers only to the beginning of the "Study in Scarlet." "One fellow, who works in a chemical laboratory at our hospital ...
Слайд 12Holmes had a stable life habits. He is unpretentious,
and almost
indifferent to comforts, completely
indifferent to luxury. He was some what indifferent
to the order of the room and accuracy in dealing
with things. He conducted risk chemical experiments in his apartment. Holmes was neat: perfectly shaven cheeks, his shirt were spotless - even in field conditions.
Sherlock Holmes is a bachelor. He hasn’t, in his words, experience any romantic feelings for someone. "Love is an emotional thing, and, thus, it is the opposite of clean and cold reason. Holmes smoked strong tobacco.
Was not vain, and in most cases, thanks for the open crime were of little interest to him. Holmes chose to accept clients in his homes. Even very wealthy clients, ladies of royal blood, and the Prime Minister of England himself came person by to see him.
Слайд 13Knowledge and skills
Holmes wrote a lot of scientific works, among them:
"Determination of varieties of tobacco ash", "Investigation of the effect on the shape of the hands on the profession," the work of the footprints, "A Practical Guide to the breeding of bees, as well as some observations on the Department of queen bee." With a surprisingly good ear, Holmes also was able to see in the dark. He had the ability to capture with extraordinary rapidity any new information in his brain, but rarely acknowledged the merit of those who provided him with this information. Being an omnivorous reader, Holmes was endowed with an extraordinary memory for all kinds of stuff.
Слайд 14Holmes is a great cryptanalyst. "I am perfectly familiar with all
kinds of encryption, as I wrote the article, which analyzed 160 codes." Sherlock Holmes is just a kind of hero that is fundamentally different from the literary figures of his epoch. He is the business professional who has extensive knowledge in a fairly narrow range of investigation and allied disciplines.
Слайд 15Enemies
Iren Adler is a woman, who appeared in the story "A
Scandal in Bohemia." She managed to unravel the idea of Holmes. Sherlock Holmes said about Irene Adler: "This woman» (the Woman).
Professor James Moriarty - the head of a powerful criminal organization, the genius of the criminal world. That is how Sherlock Holmes described him: «He comes from a good family, received an excellent education, endowed by the nature of the phenomenal mathematical ability.» Holmes described Moriarty as "the Napoleon of the criminal world." In addition, there is a physical description of Moriarty: "This man is remarkably similar to a Presbyterian preacher; he had a thin face and gray hair, and grandiloquent speech. Parting, he put his hand on my shoulder - right dear father blessing son to meet with the cruel, cold world. "
Слайд 16Dr. Watson is a friend, assistant and biographer of Sherlock Holmes
with whom he lives and works on Baker Street 221b. The stories are often conducted on behalf of Watson. He loved to accompany Holmes and never gave up the trip with his friend, because he was interested in method of Sherlock Holmes.
Mrs. Hudson is a landlady at the Baker Street 221b, a real martyr. Holmes’ carelessness, the habit of playing the violin at the most inopportune times of the day, sometimes shooting with a revolver in the room, mysterious and very smelly chemical experiments, made Holmes perhaps the most uncomfortable lodger in London.
Слайд 17Sherlock Holmes’ museum
The exhibits of the museum remind us about the
stories we have read many times. You can sit in a chair before the fire looked at thing or try on his felt hat. House of Sherlock Holmes was built in 1815. The building was purchased by the International Society named after Sherlock Holmes.

Слайд 20Conclusion
Sherlock Holmes is a fictional character. But he is so firmly
entrenched in people's minds that many believe in its real existence. Having got acquainted with the personality of Sherlock Holmes and examined his method of investigation, I began to relate to this character with a deep respect and admiration. The popularity of the character has outgrown the popularity of the writer who created it,
