Normal College;
opened to “young ladies” on January 2, 1913, and offered two years of college work;
1922  name changed to Georgia State Woman’s College at Valdosta;
went coeducational in 1950 and changed the name to Valdosta State College;
in 1993 the College was elevated to Regional University status and became Valdosta State University.

is Georgia’s 11th largest municipality, with a population of approximately 56,000.  Lowndes County has approximately 120,000. 
Valdosta, located at the Florida border, has a mild climate.
Valdosta is just 3.5 hours from Atlanta and Orlando, 2.5 hours from the beaches of Atlantic Ocean’s east Coast or the Gulf of Mexico.
Valdosta Regional Airport serves the Valdosta area.
