PROBLEM: is genetically modified food partly harmful for a human?
OBJECT: Biochemistry.
SUBJECT: some genetically modified food.
AIM: to find out some influence of genetically modified food on our health and our generation and to recommend some ways of healthful feeding.
TASKS:
to study the structures of molecules of proteins and;
to study the changed and synthesized structures of molecules of proteins;
to study genetic engineering;
to make up the tables of studied materials;
to systematize and analyze the results of the research;
to present the results in graphs;
to find out how the results can be used in practice.
METHODS:

NOVELTY: we have found out some influence of genetically modified food on our health and our generation. The functions of protein include structural support, transport, movement, and regulation of chemical reactions.

The manipulation of genetic material for human purposes, a practice called genetic engineering, began almost as soon as scientist began to understand the language of DNA.

Genetic engineering produces proteins of interest or transgenic organisms with desirable traits. Genetic engineering has been used in two general ways:
1. Genetic engineering provides a way to produce large quantities of a particular gene product.
2. Genetic engineering allows a gene for a trait considered useful by humans to be taken from one species and transferred to another species.

Ermakova, the Russian scientist (Institute of Higher Nervous Activity and Neurophysiology Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), spoke of GM food at the symposium on genetic modification in Russia which was organized by the National Association for Genetic Security (NAGS) on 10 October, 2005. She introduced her report “Influence of Genetically Modified-SOYA on the Birth-Weight and Survival of Rat Pups: Preliminary Study”. You can see her experiments on some rats which have been fed by GM food for six months.

We would like to introduce some research of the Russian famous scientists Alexander Baranov and Alexei Surov. They have researched some hamsters which have been fed the GM soya food (the sort 40-3-2) for two years. The GM soya food is allowed in Russia.

We would like to introduce the scientific research “Biological effects of transgenic maize NK603xMON810 fed in long term reproduction studies in mice” by Dr. A. Velimirov, Dr. C. Binter, Univ. Prof. Dr. J. Zentek.

Summing up.
The tasks have been solved. We have found the experiments on mice, rats and hamsters which have been fed by GM soy, GM potatoes and GM maize. The experiments have proved some influence GM food on rodents’ health. We suppose that GM food can influence on our health partly. We have found out and studied some GM food in Russia. We have revealed that most Russian food producers encode GM food. We have made up the table of the studied materials. We have systematized and analyzed the results of research. We present results in graphs. We have found and counted up the products which contain GM food ingredients.
We would like to give you the following advice:
1. Be more careful about buying food and look at the food ingredients.
2. You shouldn’t trust the sign GM free and look at the food ingredients
more attentively.
3. Remember: most Russian food producers encode GM food
ingredients.
