Alexander Pushkin

The Imperial Lyceum in Tsarskoye Selo near Saint Petersburg, also known historically as the Imperial Alexander Lyceum after its founder Tsar Alexander I, was an educational institution which was opened on October 19, 1811with the object of educating youths of the best families who would afterwards occupy important posts in the Imperial service.

Lyceum students should not be lazy

form of clothing. The uniform of the Lyceum consisted of caftan of dark blue cloth with a standing collar of red cloth and the same cuffs, with gold and silver sewing. Buttons were smooth, gold-plated, lining blue. The camisole and the bottom dress are made of white cloth.

1843, the Lyceum was transfered to St. Petersburg and was renamed the Imperial Alexander Lyceum, by an order of Nicholas I. The reason for the change was the fact that some graduates of the Lyceum, including Pushkin’s friends Pushin and Kuchelbecker were among the participants of the December revolution (December 14, 1825).
