The Tower.
The Tower of London was
built in 1078 by William the Conqueror to protect the city. It is one of the oldest buildings of the city . Many centuries ago it was a fortress, a royal palace and then a prison. Now it is a museum of arms.

Tower Bridge is near the Tower of London.
It is one of the most famous bridges in the city and first opened in 1894. Crossing the river by the Tower Bridge you can see the Tower.

On the bank of the
Thames, not far from the Tower of London, you can see the Houses of Parliament. This is the home of the British government and it is one of the most beautiful buildings in London.

Big Ben is the name of the clock
and the bell of the clock tower of the Houses of Parliament. You can hear the sound of Big Ben every hour in London. The clock and the bell got their names after Sir Benjamin Hall. He was a tall man, whose nickname was big Ben.

On the other side of Parliament Square is
Westminster Abby. It is one of the most famous and beautiful churches in London. Westminster Abby is more than nine hundred years old. After William the Conqueror, every King and Queen of England was crowned king or queen here.

One of the greatest English churches,
St. Paul’s Cathedral, is not far from the Tower of London. The famous English architect Sir Christopher Wren built it in 1709 after the Great fire. It rises 108 m to the cross at its summit, and its dome is the second biggest dome in the world, after St. Peter’s in Rome.

George Downing who built houses here in the 17th century. No. 10 with its famous black front door has been the official residence of Britain’s Prime Minister since 1732, when King George II presented the property to Sir Robert Walpole, Britain’s first Prime Minister.

Buckingham Palace is the Queen’s official London
residence. Built in 1705 for the Duke of Buckingham, it was sold in 1761 to George III. And in August and September, you can usually visit some of the rooms in the palace. It is the wonderful building with a monument in front of it which is the Queen Victoria Memorial.

city. Some people say it is the most beautiful place in London. There are two beautiful fountains in the square. Every year people from all parts of London concentrate here to celebrate New Year.

Nelson’s column
Nelson’s column was erected in
1843 to commemorate Admiral Lord Nelson’s victory at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. The column is 51 m tall and four majestic bronze lions, each 6 m long and 3.3 m high, guard the base of the column.
