Слайд 2Purpose
The purpose of this project is to introduce some traditions
of Ireland and its national features. I have included the following items: Irish blessings, traditional food of Ireland and Irish holidays.
Слайд 3 Irish people
These are some of the things Irish people are
mostly known for:
The Irish like to think that Celtic blood flows through the veins of all the great and the good.
The Irish respect, and expect, polite and reserved behavior, and find pretentious
behavior to be very off-putting.
An interesting fact is that many Irish have red hair
Слайд 4 Irish blessings
Ireland has dramatically changed over the years leaving behind
some of the older traditions. One thing that is not as popular as it once was but is seen as a typical Irish traditions is their blessings. Many of the Irish blessings that are a thing of the past in Ireland are still kept alive by people from all over the world.
Irish blessings are about welcoming, warmth and turning a negative situation into a positive one.
Слайд 5Traditional Irish dishes
Traditional Irish dishes are the following: Soda bread, Irish
Apple Cake with Custard Sauce, etc.
Слайд 6Irish Stew
And speaking about the Irish dishes I can’t but say
about the Irish Stew. I won’t tell you the original receipt, but I’d like to read the quotation from the book “Three men in a boat” by Jerome K. Jerome.
Слайд 7Irish holidays
The Irish do love national holidays and here are some
of them: St. Patrick's Day, Easter Monday, May Day, etc.
Слайд 8St. Patrick’s Day
I’d like to get acquainted you with a great
national holiday St. Patrick's Day.
Слайд 9Every year on March 17, the Irish and the Irish-at-heart across
the globe observe St. Patrick’s Day, which began as a religious feast day for the patron saint of Ireland and has become an international festival celebrating Irish culture with parades, dancing, special foods and a whole lot of green.
Слайд 10This usually happens on St. Patrick’s Day:
Thousands of people attend St
Patrick's Day parades and festivities in towns and cities across Northern Ireland, including the largest event taking place in Dublin
Parades begin at noon outside and are followed by live music, Irish dancing and street theatre in the city.
Landmark buildings "go green" in honour of Ireland's patron saint.
Слайд 11Meanwhile, in 2015, in England, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge
were guests of honour at the annual St Patrick's Day Parade by the Irish Guards in Aldershot.
The Duchess handed out shamrocks to officers and guardsmen at Mons Barracks.
However, she struggled to pin a sprig on the collar of the regiment's mascot Irish wolfhound, Domhnall, as it kept falling off.
Слайд 12Preparations for St. Patrick’s Day
Here are some guidelines on how to
celebrate St. Patrick's Day Irish-style!
Learn a little of the history of St Patrick's Day.
Go green.
Wear accessorize.
Dye your hair or your pet's fur bright green with a non-toxic dye.
Cute shamrocks on the cheeks are a popular option, along with full-faced Irish flags of green, white and orange.
Слайд 13If you go to Ireland and participate in its national festivals,
you will really feel its national spirit.
