FOR + a period of time (in answers to the question ‘how long?’; used to show a length of time):
I’ve lived in this house for six years. They have been watching TV for two hours.

DURING + noun (all through a period of time; used to say when something happens):
I fell asleep during the film. We met a lot of interesting people during our holiday. (во время отпуска, в отпуске)
