The Sakha flag is blue, white, red and green. Blue signifies
a peaceful life, white says we are all children of the white Sun. Red represents the love we have for our country, green reminds us of our hot summers, our origin from the Turks, and also represents freedom and hope.

The Sakha emblem is placed on the background of a silver
sun-shield with seven traditional diamond-shaped figures. In the emblem there is a man on the horse carrying the flag. This dark red figure symbolizes the unity of the tribes in the past and the unity of the nationalities, living in our republic today.
Слайд 4The Sakha Republic is located in north-east Siberia. It is the
largest part of Siberia with an area of over 3.000.000 square kilometers. Within its borders would fit 6 Frances or 13 Englands!
Слайд 5In Yakutia there are more than 700.000 rivers. The largest and
most spectacular river in Yakutia is the Lena. It is 15 kilometers wide, 4,400 kilometers long and 20 meters deep. It is the tenth-longest river in the world.
Слайд 6The climate of Yakutia is sharp continental. Winter is severe and
long, lasting from late October until March. The temperature is extremely cold in winter. -40 or -50 degrees!

Summer is the favourite season in our unusually cold land. Summer
lasts from June till September. In June we have “white nights”, this is when it is light twenty-four hours a day.

There is a great number of natural recourses in the Sakha
Republic. Gold, silver, timber, oil, gas, salt can be found in Yakutia. But the main richness of the Sakha land is diamond.

About 70 nationalities live in our multinational republic and native inhabitants
are: Yakuts, Evens, Evenks, Yukaghirs, Chukchee, Dolgans.

Yakut cooking, clothing and housing traditions are very rich, they meet
the requirements of natural and climatic conditions of the region.

The Yakut national dishes are mostly prepared from milk, meat and
fish. They are highly appreciated not only for their taste but nourishing qualities as well.

The Yakut national clothes are very colorful and beautiful. They were
mainly made of natural materials: fur, shammy, softly dressed reindeer skin, wool, silk, leather, red or black cloth. Yakut national clothes are very comfortable both for hot summer and cold winter.

The most popular traditional holiday of the Yakut people is Yhyakh.
This event is a real festival of music, dance, poetry and sports.

Once a year, at the beginning of the last ten-day period
in June all people come together to dance, sing, drink kymys and compete in national sport events.

in for different kinds of sport.

The most popular sports in our republic are wrestling and jumping.

The people like modern kinds of sport too. They are fond
of judo, karate, ushu and other kinds of oriental fights. Volleyball, basketball, hockey, football, skiing, athletics, gymnastics are also very popular.

The capital of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) is Yakutsk. It
was founded in 1632 in the Tuymaada valley by Russian Cossacks. Yakutsk is a modern city, it is the administrative economic, industrial, cultural and scientific center of the Sakha Republic.

Fine shops, cinemas, libraries cultural and research institutions, medical centers, university,
colleges, secondary schools, theatres, museums can be found in Yakuts, my native city.
