Gzhel pottery was originally created by potters in their homes.   By 1812 there were 25 factories producing dishes in Gzhel. Among them, the most popular were the plants of Yermila Ivanov and Laptev in the village of Kuzyaevo. In addition to dishes, they made toys in the form of birds and animals and decorative statues on themes from Russian life.

Originally samovars were made in Siberia. But Tula was famous for her gunsmiths, and they began to make samovars. The production of samovars was moved to Tula, near Moscow.
