As the technology is quite recent , there is no fixed terminology for talking about it yet.
At the moment the following phrases are used in Russian: посылка текстовых сообщений or посылка SMS-сообщений.
Informal послать эсэмэску is frequently used.

Text-message- a short text message sent over a mobile phone.
In text messages, combinations of letters, symbols and numbers are used instead of conventional spelling.
This helps to make the message shorter.

smiley  is smiling or a happy face

Smiley is a description of a smiling human face, often used in a pop-culture.

The word «смайлик» sometimes is also used as a definition of any emoticon (эмотикон)

Where have you been? People are starting to use SMS abbreviations all the time, on the other hand not everyone understands what 'be seeing you' means. To stay in touch with someone by mobile or email SMS abbreviations are great.
