Everybody sees smoke coming out of tall factory chimneys. Everybody can smell the gas from the back of a bus. In big cities thousands of cars and factories may add tons of poison to the atmosphere every day.

Water pollution
Another problem is our systems. The sewage from many houses of a big city pollutes rivers and lakes and may even make them die. The seas are in danger as they are also polluted. Fish and sea animals may disappear.

don’t realize how much animals suffer. We use animals for clothes, shampoos, soaps and cosmetics. We kill whales for their oil, which we use for cosmetics and soaps. A lot of expensive jewellery are made from ivory of elephants. They are disappearing now.

Deforestation
Every day we use paper and cardboard, both made of wood, every year over 100000 sq.km of forests are cut down, so they are disappearing fast.

Gulf of Mexico caused by an explosion and a fire on board of the drill rig Deep – water Horizon. Clean operations started immediately but the British Petroleum oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico affected fisheries by blocking harbours. Oil spill reached Louisiana and Texas and it can damage ecosystem.

bottles. These bottles can’t be recycled and plastic won’t even degrade. If you throw this bottle, it will still litter the earth for ever. Only buy water and other drinks in aluminum cans or glass bottles. Buy milk and juice in cartoons. Glass, aluminum and cartoon can be recycled. The energy saved from one recycled aluminum can will operate a television set for 3 hours. If you throw an aluminum can out of the train window, it will still litter the earth up to 500 years later. If you throw the glass bottle you litter the earth for ever.
