Charles Dickens was born in Portsmouth, England in 1812.
He was an English writer and social critic
Dickens was born into a poor family. In 1822 his family moved to London
Just before his 17th birthday, he became a reporter for the newspapers in the House of Commons
From 1834-1836 Charles Dickens worked as a reporter for the “Morning Chronicle”
He began his career as a writer in 1837 with “Pickwick Papers.”
Charles Dickens loved Catherine Hogarth, the daughter of Mr. Hogarth, a clever newspaper writer. They were married in April 1836.
Some of his most famous stories include “Oliver Twist”, “David Copperfield”, ”A Christmas Carol”.
Dickens visited to America in 1842. He wrote his “American Notes”.
Charles Dickens travelled a lot and never stopped writing
Dickens was buried in the heart of London, in Westminster Abbey in the Poet’s Corner. His grave was left open for several days, and thousands of people came to put flowers around his tombstone.
Charles Dickens died in 1870 but his stories are still popular today.
The aim of the lesson:
Using Bloom’s taxonomy and thinking critically, pupils understand about the English writer themselves. Students will be able to speak dialogical and give oral presentation. They analyze the theme and work in groups, work in pairs
