In Britain the Queen
is Head of State, though in fact she has no real power and doesn’t rule the country.
Слайд 6Elisabeth II is the reigning queen. She is also Head of
State of 16 independent sovereign states known as the Commonwealth realms.
Слайд 7Elizabeth was born on April 21, 1926. She was the first
child of Prince Albert, Duke of York (later King George VI), and his wife, Elizabeth.
Слайд 8Elizabeth II’s full style at birth was Her Royal Highness Princess
Elizabeth of York. She was third in the line of succession to the throne.
Слайд 9After the death of her father king George VI Elisabeth became
constitutional monarch in February of 1952. At that time Elizabeth was just 25 years of age.

2, 1953 in Westminster Abbey in London.

for the crowning was placed on her head.

Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten, Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark.

granted the title of His Royal Highness. Elisabeth’s husband became Prince consort of England.

at the moment of her coronation.

1959 and 1963.

her responsibilities. She has a deep sense of religious and civic duty, and takes her coronation oath seriously.

The Queen’s official residence in London is Buckingham Palace.

She spends most of her time there.
Слайд 20But at weekends and on vacations (usually in August) Her Majesty
prefers going to the Queen’s family palace - Windsor Castle which is 30 minutes ride from Buckingham Palace.

in it. She calls it her home.

this means that Her Majesty the Queen is at home.

Queen is the Commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of the UK.

St. James’s Park. Earlier the regiments of the Commonwealth and the British Army trooped the flags in the battles. Now Trooping of the Colour has become a ceremony for regiments to display their past military achievements to the general public.

For more than 60 years, during a period of great change
in Britain, the queen has carried out her political duties as Head of State, the ceremonial responsibilities of the sovereign and a large annual programme of visits in the United Kingdom as well as numerous foreign tours.

Слайд 30Her Majesty Queen Elisabeth II opens the sessions of British Parliament.
Слайд 31The Queen visits hospitals, schools and other special places, fulfils different
state duties.

is remarkable that there is one Queen in the UK, but she has two birthday on April 21st, which is spent privately at Windsor’s with friends and family.

the second, and sometimes the third, Saturday in June.

national identity, unity and pride.
