third largest city in the UK after London and Birmingham. In the 19th century Queen Victoria once called Glasgow “the second city of the British Empire”. This nickname became very popular and is still used. You can often hear people say “I am going to the second city of the Empire”.
The population of Glasgow is about 2 million people. The city is commercial capital of Scotland, the largest commerce centre and one of Europe’s most important financial centres.
