Type 0 conditionals are used to express a general
truth or a scientific fact. In this type of conditional we can use when instead of if.

If/when polluted water is not filtered, it can be dangerous for our health.

Type I conditionals are used to express a real
or very probable situation in the present or future.
IF-CLAUSE MAIN CLAUSE
If + present simple future simple,
(as soon as, after, before,
when etc. ) imperative, can/must/may, +bare infinitive
Слайд 4NOTE: With type I conditionals we can use unless + affirmative
verb = if + negative verb.
If she does well at the interview, she will get the job. - Если она пройдет интервью, она получит работу.
She will not speak to him unless he apologises. – Она не будет с ним разговаривать, пока он не извиниться.
If he doesn’t apologise, she will not speak to him. – Если он не извиниться, она не будет с ним разговаривать.

Type II conditionals (unreal present) are used to express
imaginary situations which are contrary to facts in the present, and are unlikely to happen in the present or future.

If + past simple/ would/could +

If I had a lot of money, I would go to Miami. –Если бы у меня были деньги, я бы поехал в Майами.

Type III conditionals (unreal past) are used to express
imaginary situations which are contrary to facts in the past. They are also used to express regrets or criticism.

If I had studied harder, I would have passed the exams.
( but I didn’t) – Если бы я учился усерднее, я бы сдал экзамены. (но я их не сдал).
He wouldn’t have passed his exams if he hadn’t been studying that hard.- Он бы не сдал экзамены, если бы он не учился так усердно. (он их сдал)
If you had done your test in time, you wouldn’t have got a bad mark. – Если бы ты сделал работу вовремя, ты бы не получил плохую отметку. (но ты ее получил)
I wouldn’t have behaved like that if I had been you. – Я бы не вел себя так на твоем месте.

something to be different about a present situation

I wish I was not working right now. (but I am)

We use this structure to express regret about something which
happened or didn’t happen in the past
I wish I+ past perfect
I wish I had studied harder. (but I didn’t)

If only I hadn’t been so foolish. (but I was) – Если бы только я не был таким глупым.

We use this structure to express a polite imperative, a
desire for a situation to change.
I wish+subject+would+bare infinitive
I wish you wouldn’t be so rude to your sister.
Хотел бы я, чтобы ты не был таким грубым со своей сестрой. / Жаль ,что ты так груб со своей сестрой.

NOTE: If only is used in exactly
the same way as I wish but it is more dramatic.
We can use was instead of were after “wish” and “if only”.
I wish I was/were young again.
If only I were young again.
