This holiday, dedicated to the birth of God's son Jesus Christ in Bethlehem, ends the Christmas fast, which lasts for 40 days. In its threshold people prepared to come to it pure soul and a body: washed and cleaned the dwelling, went to a bath, put on pure festive clothes, helped poor and needy, distributed alms. 6 January in Christmas Eve for large festive table, on which mandatory the first course was ritual porridge kutya or sochivo, intended the entire family. They ate after the first star had appeared, silently and solemnly. After Christmas came the so-called Holy days, which lasted until Baptism, during which it was customary to go home and praise Jesus Christ with prayers and chants.
