Слайд 7Magazine is one of the major mass media.Magazine is a collection
of articles and stories.Usually magazines also contain illustration.
Слайд 8The earliest magazines developed from newspapers and booksellers catalogs.Such catalogs first
appeared during the 1600's in France. In the 1700's pamphlets published at regular intervals appeared in England and America. They were literary publications. One of the first British magazines «The Gentleman's Magazine» was published from 1731 to 1914.The first American magazine was called the «American magazine», or «А Monthly View».
Слайд 9Magazines provide information on a wide range of topics such as
business, culture, hobbies, medicine, religion, science and sports. Some magazines entertain their readers with fiction, poetry, photography or articles about TV, or movie stars.
Magazines are designed to be kept for a longer time in comparison to newspapers and that is why they are printed on better paper and have covers. Magazines, unlike newspaper , do not focus on daily, rapidly changing events.
Слайд 10There are specialized magazines intended for special business, industrial and professional
groups, and consumer magazines intended for general public. There are several kinds of consumer magazines.
Слайд 11Hobby magazines are intended for collectors of coins, stamps, and other
items;people interested in certain sports or games;photography enthusiasts.
Men’s magazines focus on such topics as adventure, entertainment, men’s fashion and sports.
Слайд 12Women’s magazines deal with child-raisin, fashion trends, romance. They offer ideas
on cooking and home decorating. Many of the monthlies with big circulations are women’s magazines.
Слайд 14 In the first place , television is an entertainment. But
it is not only a convenient entertainment. For a family of three, four or five, for example, it is more convenient and less expensive to sit comfortably at home than to go out to find entertainment in other places. They don’t have to pay for expensive seats at the theatre or cinema. They turn on the TV-set and can watch interesting films, concerts, football matches.
Слайд 15 But some people think that it’s bad to watch TV.
We are passive when we watch TV. Television shows us many interesting programmes. But again there is a disadvantage here: we watch TV every evening, and it begins to dominate our lives.
Слайд 16There are many arguments for and against television.
Слайд 17 Television now plays an important role in our life. It’s
difficult to say if it is good or bad for us.
Слайд 18 Cinema is one of the most important means of entertainment
and
propaganda. It is an ideological instrument of the political party at power in a country. Cinema is a mirror reflection of the country rulers and their policy.
Слайд 19 If you want to go to the cinema in
Russia today you will have to face two problems. The first is to find a cinema in your locality which is still showing films and which has not been turned into a disco, bar, amusement arcade or a furniture salon-shop. The second is to find a film worth seeing.
