Christians the egg is a symbol of Jesus`s resurrection. Eggs were always thought to be special because although they do not seem alive, they have life within them especially at spring time when chicks hatch out. Long ago people gave gifts of eggs carved from wood. Since that chocolate eggs have become popular and they are given on Easter Sunday.

The tradition of the easter bunny leaving a basket of treats such as easter eggs and chocolates on Easter Day is common in many European countries and in the USA, but the idea was born in Germany in 1700.

To make 24 hot cross buns you need:
30 grams yeast, 1 ½ cups milk, 60 grams butter, 1 egg,
5 cups plain flour, 1 tablespoon salt, ½ sugar, 60 grams
sultans , 60 grams currants, 30 grams mixed peel.

1 Mix all dry ingredients with half the flour in a large bowl
2 Heat butter, milk and beaten egg until lukewarm
3 Add liquids to dry mixture and beat 2 minutes
4 Stir in remainder of flour until soft
5 Cover dough in bowl with cloth and let rise for 30-40 min.
6 Punch dough down and devide into 24 buns
7 Bake i moderate oven for 20 minutes

Nowadays people decorate their flats with Easter Trees, at schools children sometimes have Easter Tree competitions.
