Kaliningrad region was founded in 1945, when the Eastern Prussian town Konigsberg was transferred to the Soviet Union due to the decision of Yalta and Potsdam conferences. In 1946 it was renamed Kaliningrad after M.I. Kalinin, the Chairman of the Supreme Soviet.
Kaliningrad today is the administrative center of Kaliningrad region of Russia. As many years before it is a big seaport, fishing commercial fleet base. The country receives from Kaliningrad fish and fish products, apparatus and devices for gas industry, cellulose and paper of high quality, oil, and goods made of amber.
