born Daniel Foe, was an English writer, journalist, now most famous for his novel “Robinson Crusoe”. He wrote more than 500 books, pamphlets. Daniel Foe was probably born in London (between 1659 to 1661). His father, James Foe, a member of the Butchers' Company, was a prosperous tallow chandler. By the time he was about 10, Defoe's mother Annie had died.  Defoe entered the world of business as a general merchant. He married and produced eight children, six of whom survived.  He died in 1731 in London.

Jules Verne  was born in1828 in France. He is a

French author, whose writings laid much of the foundation of modern science fiction.
In Paris Verne studied law but afterward chose to follow his interest in literature. In 1850 his play, Les Pailles rompues ("The Broken Straws"), was successfully produced at Alexandre Dumas's Theatre Historique. He served as secretary at the Theatre Lyrique (1852-54) and later turned stockbroker but continued writing comedies, librettos, and stories. He travelled a lot to the USA, Great Britain.
In 1863 he published in Jules Hetzel's Magasin the first of his Voyages extraordinaires--Cinq Semaines en ballon (1863; Five Weeks in a Balloon, 1869). A number of successful motion pictures have been made from Verne novels, starting in 1916 with Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea (remade in 1954 by Walt Disney), The Mysterious Island (1929 and 1961), From the Earth to the Moon (1958), Journey to the Center of the Earth (1959), and, perhaps the most popular, Around the World in Eighty Days (1956).
In 1905, Verne died at his home.

1859. His father, Charles E. Doyle, was an artist and architect by profession. He died young and the Doyles were very poor. Arthur’s mother was a very good storyteller. Her talent of story telling was inherited by Arthur. He became a doctor by profession and had a medical practice in a small town.
In 1887 he published his first detective story about Sherlok Holmes. The readers asked for more and more stories about Sherlok Holmes and Conan Doyle gave up his medical work and devoted all his time to his literary activity. He liked sport: he skied, played golf, went in for boxing. He died in 1930.

Agatha Christie was one of England's most famous writers. Her crime and detective stories became famous for their clever plots. Agatha Christie was often called the queen of crime.
Agatha Christie was born in Devon, England in 1890 as the daughter of a British army captain. During the First World War she worked in a hospital as a nurse. Later on she got a job in a pharmacy. This influenced many of her crime stories because some of her victims were poisoned.
Agatha Christie was married twice and especially her second husband travelled a lot with her. Some of her novels, like "Death on the Nile" were set in the Middle East. "Murder on the Orient Express" was written in Istanbul.
At the beginning of the 1970s Agatha Christie became ill, but she went on writing. When she died in 1976 she had written over 60 novels, 150 short stories and 16 plays.
Many of Christie's books and short stories have been turned into successful movies.

Oscar Wilde

is a famous English writer of the 19th century, Oscar Wilde was born in Dublin, Ireland, in 1854. His mother wrote poetry, and she taught him to love literature.
He was educated at Trinity College, Dublin and Magdalen College, Oxford. Soon after leaving university his first volume of poetry, "Patience" was published.
Oscar Wilde married Constance Lloyd in 1884 and the couple had two sons. When the boys were children Wilde wrote fairy stories for them that were later published as "The Happy Prince and Other Tales" (1888).
Wilde’s tales are very beautiful. His most famous works include "The Picture of Dorian Gray" (1890) , comedies such as "Lady Windermere's Fan" (1892), "A Woman of No Importance" (1893), "An Ideal Husband" (1895) and "The Importance of Being Earnest" (1895) made him one of Britain's most famous writers. As well as some excellent short stories like “The Canterville Ghost”, that he published in 1887.
Oscar Wilde died in 1900.
His books are read and his plays are staged in many countries and in many languages.
