The whole life of I.Y.Yakovlev was
devoted to disinterested service to his people. He could not imagine his life without people and homeland. The work of his life was to teach other people to read, write, understand what was written in the books. This man lived for science, for the enlightenment of the people. Ivan Yakovlevich wanted the country to have more literate and educated people so that education would be free. I.Y.Yakovlev with his assistants and like-minded people created the now existing Chuvash alphabet. Having familiarized himself with many books in the Chuvash language, he became convinced that they were not accessible to the people and needed to improve the Chuvash alphabet. By the autumn of 1871, taking into account the practical assistance of experienced philologists, linguists I.Y. Yakovlev, the alphabet was composed and the following year the first Chuvash primer was issued on it.
