The idea of honouring mothers on a special day started
with Ann Jarvis (West Virginia), who chose the second Sunday in May. On this day many people visit their mother’s grave side and dedicate the day to their mother’s memory.
On this day children give thanks for the support, love, care their mothers and grandmothers. Giving cards and gifts is also a tradition.
They prepare decorated boxes, pictures and the “mother-ring”, a ring set with the birthstones of each of the members of the family.
When they cant visit their mothers they send
mothers different postcards or make a phone
calls them or special delivery of
flowers in order to say
“I love you” to those
who gave them life.
