-Прошедшее длительное время употребляется:
для описания действия, которое происходило в прошлом в определенное время
для описания действия, которое происходило в прошлом и было прервано другим действием
для описания двух или более одновременных действий, происходивших в развитии в прошлом

o’clock yesterday (an action in progress-действие в процессе)
He was reading a book when I came in (another action interrupted it-прервано другим действием)
He was reading while we were playing (two actions-два одновременных действия)

He wasn’t (was not) swimming yesterday afternoon.
We weren’t (were not) watching this film when he came in.

Was he watching this film while I was reading?
Were they play football yesterday morning?
Were you swimming from six to seven o’clock?

- когда
Whole (day/evening…) – целый (день/вечер…)
All morning/evening/day/week … - весь/всё/ всю (утро/вечер/день/неделю…)
At 8 o’clock/10 o’clock … - в 8 часов/10 часов …
At that moment – в тот момент

Конечная согласная при прибавлении -ing- удваивается, если перед ней стоит ударная гласная в закрытом слоге: cut-cutting, begin-beginning
Конечная -l- удваивается: travel-travelling
-ie- меняется на -y-: die-dying, tie-tying
