Слайд 31 “Loraine prepared dinner”

Taught by her grandmother’s old cook, Loraine had a light hand with pastry, and as there was lard in plenty from a home-killed pig, and slabs of butter on the larder shelf, she was soon busy with a rolling pin. First she prepared puff pastry and set it in its first stage in the larder, then made short crust for a fruit pie for tomorrow’s lunch. Remains of a cold joint were in the larder, so she diced it and prepared a curry with plenty of onions and sultanas, to be headed up tomorrow. Ellen excelled at fruit cake and shortbread, but declared that she was “a poor hand at sponge”, so Loraine made a large Victoria sandwich.-(Test)
