Слайд 4Queen Victoria was a British monarch for 63 years, from 1837
until her death in 1901. Since her reign spanned most of the 19th century, and her country dominated world affairs during this period, her name became associated with the period.
The woman whose name the Victorian era was named was much more complex than the distorted image found in old photographs.

The girl, Alexandrina Victoria, was
born on May 24, 1819. When she was only eight months old, her father died and her mother raised her. The home staff included a German governess and many teachers, and Victoria's first language as a child was German.
Victoria was 18 years old when her uncle died in 1837, and she became queen. Although she was treated with respect and had formidable advisers, including the Duke of Wellington, the hero of Waterloo, there were many people who did not expect anything good from the young queen.

Victoria's husband, Prince Albert, was a German prince
with a great interest in science and technology. Partly due to Albert's passion for new things, Victoria was very interested in technological advances.
In the early 1840s, when trips were just beginning, Victoria showed interest in traveling by rail. The palace connected with the Great Western Railway, and on June 13, 1842 it became the first British monarch traveling by train. Queen Victoria and Prince Albert were accompanied by the great British engineer Isambard Brunel and enjoyed the train ride for 25 minutes.
Слайд 8Prince Albert helped organize the Great Exhibition of 1851, a massive
show of new inventions and other technologies held in London. On May 1, 1851, Queen Victoria opened the exhibition and returned several times with her children to see the exhibits.
And even after the death of Prince Albert in 1861, she retained her interest in technology. She firmly believed that the role of Great Britain as a great nation depends on scientific achievements and the prudent use of new technologies.

Longest-running British monarch
When Victoria ascended the throne as a teenager in
the late 1830s, no one could have imagined that she would rule Britain for the remainder of the 19th century.
When she became queen, the president of the USA was Martin Van Buren. When she died on January 22, 1901, the president of the United States was William Mackinley, the 17th American President Mackinley was not even born when Victoria had already ascended the throne.
During the reign of Victoria, the British Empire abolished slavery, fought in the wars in the Crimea, Afghanistan and Africa and acquired the Suez Canal.
Слайд 11Victoria's long tenure on the throne was considered a record that
would never be broken. However, her time on the throne - 63 years and 216 days, was surpassed by Queen Elizabeth II on September 9, 2015.
Слайд 12Artist and writer
Victoria began to draw as a child, and throughout
her life she continued to paint and draw. In addition to her diary entries, she also produced drawings and watercolors to record the things she saw. Victoria's books contain illustrations of family members, servants, and the places she visited.
She also liked to write daily diary entries. Her daily journals eventually covered over 120 volumes.
Victoria also wrote two travel books on the Scottish Highlands. Benjamin Disraeli, who was a novelist before becoming prime minister, sometimes flattered the queen, citing the fact that they are both writers.
Слайд 13She was not always fat and gloomy.
We often imagine Queen Victoria
as a woman dressed in black without a sense of humor. This is because she was widowed at a fairly young age: her husband, Prince Albert, died in 1861, when he and Victoria were 42 years old.
For the rest of her life, almost 50 years, Victoria dressed publicly in black. And she was determined to never show any emotion in public speaking.
Nevertheless, in her earlier life, Victoria was known as a living girl, and as a young queen, she was very sociable. She also enjoyed having fun.
Слайд 14In her later life, Victoria, despite her harsh public behavior, is
said to have enjoyed village activities such as Scottish music and dancing during her periodic visits to Highland. And there were rumors that she was very kind to her Scottish servant John Brown.

Victoria became a grandmother at 39. The Queen was called the Grandmother of Europe, as her children tied the knot with many European royal families, including the royal houses of Denmark, Prussia and Russia. Victoria and Albert had 42 granddaughters and a grandson.
Слайд 16There is one interesting story about the British Queen. The incident
occurred in the XIX century, when Victoria attended a diplomatic reception in London. Her guest was an African leader. When a bowl of water was given to everyone for washing their hands, the leader was confused. Not knowing what to do, he began to drink the brought water. The queen found a way out of a situation that did not allow her guest to be compromised. She simply followed suit, and all the courtiers followed her.

ascended the throne, her mother carefully checked her. Victoria continued to keep diaries all her life - the last record was made 10 days before her death, and 121 notebooks were filled in all. Shortly before her death, the queen requested that one of her children re-read the notes and destroy anything that could be considered inappropriate.
Victoria ascended the throne only a few weeks after her 18th birthday. Her first order was to leave her for an hour and give her the opportunity to be alone with herself - something that she had been denied for many years.
