Great Britain. It is situated in the central part of London, where most historic and architectural sights stand.

Ben is the giant clock. In fact, it’s not the clock but the nickname for the great bell of the clock. Being one of the world’s tallest free-standing structures the Clock Tower, formerly St Stephen’s Tower, gracefully stands at the north end of the Westminster Palace. As for the clock itself, it’s the world’s largest four-faced chiming clock

symbol of England.
The origin of such nickname is still vague. Many people believe that it has been named after Sir Benjamin Hall. Today, Big Ben refers not only to the clock, but the tower and the bell, being a universally accepted collective nickname. Big Ben is known for its reliability; it almost never stopped.

the building were destroyed, the tower survived and Big Ben continued working. However, during wars and sad occasions the clock was often silenced and darkened at night.
