A lot of places as in Scotland so in Karachay-Cherkessia are natural paradise still untouched by the man. We’ll compare their beautiful scenery, castles and monasteries, famous musical instruments- bagpipe and national harmony and similarity in everyday life

white cross on the blue. (It’s Saint Andrew’s cross, who was crucified on the X-shaped cross. St. Andrew is the patron saint of both Scotland and Russia).

thistle. A thistle is a plant. It’s very beautiful but it’s very sharp too. An ancient story says that enemies from across the sea wanted to take the Scots by surprise in their sleep. They took off their shoes not to make noise but one of them stepped on a thistle and cried of a sharp pain. The Scots awoke and won the battle.

In the center of the green strip is a white circle containing the sun rising from behind the mountain, representing the landscape of the republic. Mount Elbrus, the highest mountain in Europe, is situated here. You can see the image of this mountain on the flag and coat of arms of the republic.

a very unusual instrument. It is very difficult to learn to play it. This instrument came to Britain from Rome. Bagpipes are popular in many countries even in India and China. They play bagpipes at festivals, in streets for tourists. There is a special military show in Edinburgh in August. It is called “tattoo”.

celebrate Robert Burns’ birthday. The celebration-Burn’s Night is usually held in the form of supper, with reciting his poems & a lot of music & Scottish dance. Robert Burns a well known and popular Scottish poet was born in 1759. Nowadays his poems are known and loved by people all over the world.

the basin of the Teberda River. Dozens of glaciers cover about 10% of its territory.

paths, a pond and flower beds — everything here contributes to a calm repose and going for-walk. Wild bees once lived in the local rocks under the waterfalls. Water jets sometimes washed out the bee’s cells and flowed further, becoming honey sweet. Hence the name: Honey Waterfalls.
