Слайд 3The English are a unique people with a historically established character.
English traditions and customs are known all over the world. Englishmen do not expose their emotions to the first person they meet. They can give the impression of a restrained and even a little repulsive person. However, this is just a wrapper. Englishmen are very polite, that is why they do not hurry to express their emotions at once.
Try to describe some British traditions:
Слайд 4National character
The world has been known for centuries for its characteristic
features of British character: polite, but at the same time closed, restrained and even arrogant. They may be able to maintain a leisurely conversation, but not a word about anything personal in its entirety. Two famous qualities of the British are also distinguished, such as self-control and subtle humour, and most often "black".

Left side traffic
It's not by chance that Britain is called a
country of tradition. While about 70% of our planet's inhabitants travel on the right side of the street, the British have preferred left-hand traffic since 1756.
Слайд 6Faithful to the calculus system.
True conservatives, British Islanders are extremely reluctant
to follow a decimal system of measures. Among the unusual traditions in the UK it is worth noting that here still prefer to measure distances by miles, yards, inches, liquids - pints, etc.
Слайд 7Tea drinking is a ritual!
Probably one of the most famous national
traditions of Great Britain is tea drinking, which has been honored and held here as a ritual since the XVII century. Careless attitude of foreigners to it often corrupts the British. Here they prefer to drink drinks of fine Chinese tea in the morning and during lunch (about 17.00). Aboriginal people like to drink tea with milk, cream or without it, and they do not like our favorite tea with lemon. Tea drinking is usually accompanied by cookies, cakes, sandwiches, toasts and leisurely conversation.
Слайд 8British people love holidays.
Despite the seeming restraint, the British love the
holidays. For example, one of the most important holidays and traditions of Great Britain is Christmas. Everybody is in a hurry to have a Christmas dinner with their family or friends to taste Christmas dishes - stuffed turkey or fried goose, cranberry sauce, Christmas pudding. In addition, New Year's Eve, Valentine's Day, Easter, St. Patrick's Day, Halloween and, of course, Queen's Birthday are also celebrated in the Foggy Albion country. In addition, festivals and sporting events are also held here.
Слайд 9You should change your outfit by lunchtime!
Some of the unusual
traditions of the UK are already considered a relic by most civilized countries. However, in the British Isles it is still customary to change clothes for lunch.
Слайд 10Dress code
One of the amazing facts about Great Britain is that
some institutions still wear suits or items of clothing from the past centuries. So, for example, in prestigious Cambridge and Oxford students wear robes of the sample of XVII century, palace guards of Tower are dressed in magnificent suits of times of Tudors, judges and lawyers at hearings of cases necessarily are present in wigs of the sample of XVIII century.
Слайд 11Crows in the Tauere
According to British traditions and customs, the Tower
of London is home to a dynasty of so-called Black Ravens, which have been in existence since the middle of the 16th century. By order of King Charles II in the 17th century, the Tower should always have six adults. Even a special position was approved - a ravensmester, or a raven keeper, who takes care of the birds. And now there are 6 black crows, named after the Celtic and Scandinavian gods. According to the old custom, if the ravens leave the Tower, the monarchy will come to an end. That's why birds get their wings cut off.
